TOPIC: Reputable boat & trailer shippers?

Reputable boat & trailer shippers? 3 years 7 months ago #144229

This forum has already been so helpful in providing advice to repower our 1965 18' Slickcraft - what she lost in authenticity, she gained in reliability! (Before and after photos below) Given that success, I thought I'd come to the well again:

We're going to be transporting the whole boat, motor, and trailer from Fox Lake, Illinois to the San Francisco Bay Area. The major requirement is that we want the whole thing shipped on a flatbed or enclosed truck, not just towed directly on the road.

So, does anybody have recommendations regarding either individual shippers, or the things to watch out for when selecting one?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks. I found that website, but it looks like it's a marketplace for third parties. Did you have a good experience?

Yes it worked out good for me. The website is a hub for shippers who are either looking for a "load" on a return trip or just someone who does hauling. They are all insured but it's up to you to check anyway.
I shipped a 16' fiberglass on a trailer but it was not on a flatbed. A young couple from the area with their family took the boat to San Antonio and made a mini vacation out of it. From Green Bay, wi. to Tx in two days. At that time it was $1200. but I'm sure prices have gone up since then. The different drivers bid against each other for your business and that brings the price down.
There are probably other options out there but this is the one I used.
There is a TV program called "shipping wars" that highlights how the system works. I'm sure if you search youtube or your provider you can find it.
Good luck in your search.
