TOPIC: 1958 Thunderbird "Miami" Cathedral Hull

1958 Thunderbird "Miami" Cathedral Hull 4 years 4 months ago #142368

New user here!

Glad to be here. I have a 1958 Woodson Miami Thunderbird that my grandfather gave me before he past away. My goal is to restore this hunk of fiberglass. Unfortunately, I cannot find any information on the boat. I am looking for some type of "blue print" of what the boat is supposed to look like inside and out. This boat has gone through multiple hurricanes and unfortunately a victim of theft as well. Some people (who have no morals or regards to others), broke in a storage facility and stripped the boat of anything valuable. If you know anyone who might have a boat like this, or know where to look to get the right information needed to restore this boat, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome aboard ! There most likely never were blueprints or drawings of the boat - even when new. Brochure photos and advertising photos will be your best source to know the interior layout.

If I recall my boat history, Woody Woodson was the first with the tri-hull boat design. He was involved with Thunderbird. In 1967 or so he licensed his one of his designs to Cruisers, Inc. of Oconto, Wisconsin to get them into non-wooden boat production.

Thank you, I have a few pictures that I have found of the boat when my grandpa had it on the water. But they are all exterior photos. My search will continue!

some references
iboats has several threads on Woodson Boats.

Lots of info on Woody Woodson and Thunderbird boats, but not your particular model. It was most likely designed by Richard C. Cole who was the Naval Architect that worked for Woodson and is generally credited with inventing the Cathedral hull. I'll keep looking.

If you do a google search on woody woodson boats and the select images, it brings up lots of them, most of which are on boatdesign.net. But there are others as well. Should give you some ideas of the interior. Probably didn't change much over the late 50's and early 60's.

Do the same for Thunderbird.
