TOPIC: control cables adjusting length

control cables adjusting length 5 years 4 months ago #139665

Has anyone ever tried to lengthen cables they all ready have from one boat to make them fit a longer boat ????

I have cables for the outboard I want to use but they are going to be 3-4 feet too short for the new boat. I was thinking there must be stuff at a hardware store that I could use to make then the length i need.

All this in case I can't buy the correct new cables I need for the old outboard I have, or it's too expensive.

any thoughts thanks

Short answer.....nope.
Did you think about relocating the controller itself? Is it a merc or omc? I had a 1963 Century Sabre that had the shift and throttle control mounted between the front seats with the cables running along the bilge.
4' is a long way to patch. Since the cables are push/pull you would need an anchor point at each end so that eliminates a patch job. Plenty of cables on eBay but you have to search for the right length, free shipping, and low price. Maybe someone here could give you a deal. How long do you need??

yes i will need to do a lot of searching on line i guess. My concern was finding the correct ends that will connect to the motor and the control box fittings

the outboard says 35 hp twin and also merc 350

thanks

Can't help you with the Merc ends I tend to favor the older OMCs (Evinrude 35 twin). I do have a Varity of cable ends and connections that I'll be bringing to swap meets but if you know what you want or need let me know and I'll keep 'em out.

I guess I will go ahead and disconnect them and see if you have anything that would fit
