TOPIC: Best way to trailer two boats?

Spring is here and I have two trips scheduled in May for Northern Michigan. My go-to boat to bring is my 14' Speed Queen but I'm not able to fish out of it, and I'd really like to fish up there. Preferably I'd bring a 14' utility style aluminum boat and the Speed Queen; one to cruise and one to fish with. I brought a kayak up last year but it's not the same.

I've looked into the stacked boat trailers but they seem pretty expensive for what they are. I also did some research and it looks like it's not legal to tow two boat trailers together.

The third option would be getting a small store n lock unit up north and leaving a boat there for the spring/summer but I'd rather not do that.

Any ideas?

None of those boats would be advisable on Lake Superior. I've hauled two boats but the stacked one was a small 12' aluminum turned upside down on my trailered boat with some 2x4s and shipping blanket padding. A small 5hp motor shoved in the back of the vehicle is light enough to haul around. I have a friend who just puts his 12 footer on top of his car. Light enough to load and unload.

Thanks for the reply and pics. I'll be heading to Lake Charlevoix on the first trip and then Glen Lake on the second, so just inland lakes for me. I think the stacked idea makes the most sense. I'll look into getting a 12'er for that.

I did a quick search on using a snowmobile trailer (wide) and then putting them side by side but it looks like that would put me over the legal limit of 8.5' wide.

Craigslist is usually a good place to begin looking for a 12 footer.
Nice area where you're going. Here I live across the pond just north of Green Bay and have full access to water but I still liked spending weeks vacationing around Mullet Lake by Cheboygan (sp).
