I received a message from a local "outboard wheeler & dealer" that I horse-traded with the last few years.
He asked me to call, as he was liquidating "the herd", but due to even more closely related medical trauma, I wasn't able to respond for a while.
When I did reach out,...I immediately received a return call from a police department, asking if I knew any of his family.
Explaining further that he was in the hospital, in the nearby capitol city of Olympia, WA.
Since I was not a family member, I did not receive any further information.
A couple days ago I learned from another of Wayne's friends (and wheeler-dealers) that Wayne had suffered a massive stroke that left him unable to speak, or move anything but one arm & leg.
Fortunately his daughter was contacted in Oregon, and she was able to pick up and care for Wayne.
Wayne was a laid back, long gray-haired, good ole boy that enjoyed horse-trading throughout his life.
Cars, outboards, you name it.
He was missing as many teeth as I am, and about the same age.
I always enjoyed his visits, and only had to scold him a few times about getting his cigarette smoke into my shop.
I am really missing him, and just want to stand on a soapbox just long enough to encourage my friends to stop smoking and wear protective gear when working with fiberglass, and other chemicals.
