TOPIC: HIN location in a 1964 Custom Craft Sea Ray

HIN location in a 1964 Custom Craft Sea Ray 5 years 10 months ago #138591

Hi Folks,
Could anyone point me in a direction as to where to find the HIN in a 1964 (I think) Custom Craft Sea Ray? Just picked this one up and am having issues with getting a replacement title. I have no old registration or paperwork.

Any help is very much appreciated!!

Mike

Don’t know your boat, but if those decals and wrap are the original ones, that should be a 1965 engine. Doesn’t mean the boat could not be a 64, 65, 66 depending on what a dealer had available when setting it up originally. There are others here that should be able to help you with the boat. Good luck.

Not sure about Custom Craft, but HIN's weren't required until 72 if I'm not mistaken. It might not have one.

Look at your state registration number on the hull/bow. There is a sticker on there which should indicate the last year the registration was in effect. Get ahold of your state department either with a phone call or website. Better if you can go in person with a bill of sale and that registration number. They have records on file in their system. If it's not reported stolen or if the bill of sale matches the previous owner you should have no problem getting a new title or whatever is required. It could then be assigned a new HIN.

Here's a link for the MS registration form. Looks like it should be an easy transfer.

On my 64 Aqua Ray, it is a Dymo label upside down in the motor well

I am not familiar with any standard or when it was initiated, but I can speak to the fact that in the 50's and 60' some manufacturers actually spent a couple bucks on a brass or metal stamped a badge or tag and installed it to a bulk head somewhere in the interior of the boat, usually near the engine or helm location, such was the case with my Buehler Turbo Craft, that being said this would be a manufacturer # and not a hin, your other hope as previously stated might be a paper bread crumb trail.
