TOPIC: Ted Jones 5x10 Cat history?

Ted Jones 5x10 Cat history? 5 years 7 months ago #138116

Hi All, I brought this request to the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum in Kent, WA. And they suggested l try this site. I'm looking for information about a boat that I have. According to the sticker on the side it's a Ted Jones 5x10 Catamaran. By Hydro Marine. It was thought that only 6 or 7 were made. There is no ID # on the transom, only the sticker on the side. When I got it it had never been in the water or motor on it. Anyone in the Northwest know of these? Thank you!

The old Ted Jones Hydroplanes website: www.vintagehydroplanes.com/plans/jones/classic_plans.html

Ted's son Ron Jones, Sr. passed away in '17 but it appears his son Ron Jr. is still in the area. Surprised the hydro museum didn't mention him. There is some contact info at the site and the phone # appears to still be good:

Not a lot to go on, but it's a start. Good luck with your quest for info............ed

I had a Ted Jones 5x10 cat some 60 years ago, in orange and white, that I named "Tangerine Machine". I zipped around Lake Washington with an older 30 hp Johnson on it... and am shocked to hear you have a like-new one! I only saw one other one, EVER, an all white with racing stripes and big tower of power Merc, racing in the Sammamish slough. Again, near 60 years ago! Would love to hear more about these fun little sport-boats. And see some pictures too! Ben Chandler
