TOPIC: CORRECT COLOR: 1961 FLAME RED??

Friends,

After a careful cleaning of the deck/gunnels on the 1961 Re4d Fish Offshore 1702, I've got to repaint all of the topsides.
The red gelcoat is so badly Sun-faded that I cannot tell what exact color that it originally was.
(The remainder of the hull's gelcoat, which is plain white, seems to be in excellent condition everywhere under the accumulated dirt/"crud" of 20+ years, since the boat was last used.)

Do any of you KNOW what the correct color of red that "Red Fish Flame Red" was when it left the factory?? - I've checked out the usual Worldwideweird search engines with ZERO luck.

If you can get to an auto paint store go through their color books and see what you can match.

Fwiw, I checked with the SOLE major company in Bexar County that sells automotive paint to body/paint shops & they find NO reference to "Flame Red" as used by Red Fish.
I also talked to the shop manager at Alamo Colleges Collision Department (last Wednesday PM) about that subject & he stated that he knew of NO place that would have that "color sample" after over 50 years.
He also asked me why I was concerned about the CORRECT shade of red, inasmuch as nobody seems to KNOW & then said, "Why not pick out a shade of red that you like & go with that?? I suspect that nobody will ever know the difference."
(He may well be 100% correct about that.)

That would definitely make things easier for you. Just choose a red you like and go for it.

I guess that I don't have any other realistic choice., since nobody here seems to know.
(This forum has more real experts on antique & classic boats of any place that I know of.)

I just purchased a flywheel key for my old '58 Johnson outboard from a business there. His business card says he does parts/service etc for all boats and motors OLD and new. Might be worth a shot. He might have info on where to get what you want.

Google auto paint charts from 1961 and search for a flame red.....
Here is a 1950's Chris Craft upholstery chart with Flame Red tolex sample. At least you can see how it looks against other shades of red of a little earlier period.

THANK YOU for the suggestion. = 1961 CORVETTE FLAME RED looks quite nice on the laptop. - I'll ask at Sherwin-Williams auto paint department for a "color chip".

I finally (after considerable looking about) found an old employee (over 20 years service) of a Texas RED FISH dealer. = He said that 1961 FLAME RED by Red Fish is the SAME color as 1957 Ford THUNDERBIRD Flame Red.
