1968 STERNCRAFT 21 foot I/O Boat/Trailer 7 years 4 months ago #133350

Friends,

I've been out "nosing about in the back 40" again & found the above BIG/BEAMY/DEEP open boat on a nice/tandem trailer. - It has a straight 6, Chevy-based 150HP, 250CI that was said to be running fine when the sole owner passed away suddenly in late 2015. His widow just wants it gone.
(Engine serial number: 00305131)

Perchance, do any of you happen to have good photos of what the big Sterncraft looked like when new AND/OR other data about the boat/builder (beyond what's in the FG Library), I would be very interested in learning it.
(I suspect that over nearly a half-century that numerous things have been added/subtracted/modified/replaced.)

In the event that I do buy it, it will be my "dedicated saltwater fishing machine" for the TX bays/Gulf of Mexico.

yours, satx

I don't have the 1968 catalog , but am posting the information from the 1966 catalog showing the 21' Bahama as well as the sheets from the 1969, 1970, and 1972 22' Bahama. I hope that this might help.

Boy those are some nice looking boats. I'd love to have something in that layout. A company called Rossiter makes modern equivalents of those layouts and they're currently my lotto boat. At least for new builds. If I found a deal on a vintage equivalent like that I'd be hard pressed not to be a buyer.

Do the brochure models come with it? ..... Wait, they're probably all in their 70's by now. Fergit it.

ultraclyde,

Fyi, I've recently found 2 more SternCrafts of a similar sort at the 500-800.oo level. A sixteen, eighteen & a twenty-two footer. (The 16 footer is an OB model.) = IF you're serious, I'll "hook you up" with the owners.

Fwiw, I think that there is now enough interest in SternCraft products to warrant a SternCraft Owner's Club.

lee wangstad,

THANKS MUCH for the photos. = SternCraft boats of that era changed little from year to years from 1965-75, so what you sent is singularly appropriate for my needs..

btw, the particular model that I've found is called the: GRAND BAHAMA 21.

63 Sabre,

You might be interested in meeting the models daughters or granddaughters in 2017.
(In my case, it makes no difference, as I've been "spoken for" for quite some time.)

It's been my long experience that nicely restored antique boats of that sort ATTRACT lovely ladies, as honey attracts bees, so you will not want for feminine companionship, presuming that you're free to enjoy theirs!!

I've been with the same one for over 52 yrs. now and going strong. MY youngest granddaughter is probably older than those models.
Yes those restored boats do attract a younger group. Thumbs up all around. A young couple just purchased my '60 Shell Lake Rocket as their first boat and I had to warn them about being hijacked at boat landings with people wanting to know all about it. Comes with the territory.

63 Sabre,

UNDERSTOOD & CONGRADS on 52 years with ONE lady.

That Shell Lake Rocket is a NICE first boat. - At my age (70), I enjoy something considerably ROOMIER & more seaworthy for game-fishing out in the larger TX bays & The Gulf Of Mexico.

Fwiw, a physician from Austin was surrounded by "questioners" at the Travis County Park boat-landing on Lake Travis to see/touch/admire/ask about his 1962 Twin Rivers IB runabout. = Must have been at least 25 "admirers", while I was there.
(PURTY 20-foot runabout for sure.)

ultraclyde,

Sadly for you, you are highly UNLIKELY to find a Sterncraft anywhere but Texas, as that company sold few anywhere else. - Both of the Sterncraft boats that I know of in California were sold in Texas & later removed to the left coast.

Just purchased a 1970 Sterncraft Balboa '19. One-owner and near-mint condition. Beautiful boat. 165 Mercruiser is running like a dream.

I'd be happy to help with the owners club.
