TOPIC: 1962 Renken help

I picked up a 1962 Renken 14' or 15' boat. Extremely neglected, actually had a small tree growing inside of it.

I have been attempting to find some literature on the design of this model boat. It has a drain hole under the dash which looks to flow through a hollow keel (under the deck where stringers are mounted) to the back of the boat and then come out near the drain hole. The floor and stringers were completely rotten and the transom is well on its way.

I just want to make sure there isnt anything between the outer hull and the deck where the stringers attach rotting away. It seems like a major design flaw to have water openly able to get under the deck/stringers. I am tempted to close it off and run a drain between the stringers to the drain hole, opposed to the water draining under the deck then back out at the drain hole.

Due to the transom design I will have to cut out from the back of the boat, because its not very accessible from the inside.

I would take the deck off to do the transom, I wouldn't cut the transom out.

i agree ive even seen some guys just cut the back quater of the topdeck off to access the transom and then reinstall
