crazy mirror problem 14 years 1 month ago #13113

i like the mirror on my boat, but i cant figure out how to make it stop bouncing up and down every time i hit a wave. its got to be the ball bearing behind it, but i have no clue how to fix it.

You can't fix it from that side... If you can get the mirror glass out, there will be a stamped metal piece with (2) screws in it. Tighten those screws- it tightens the ball.

The only way I've gotten them out without breaking- is to heat the mirror with a paint-stripping heat gun. Most hair dryers don't get hot enough. You will need to use a stiff PLASTIC scraper.. and VERY GENTLY apply pressure to the glass. It's a judgement call whether it releases or not.

got a photo of the glass side? Some of those (older) mirrors have a retaining bezel...

Also.. I would try a quick-fix of coating the backside of the ball with BLUE Lok-Tite threadlocking liquid. This will work it's way into the ball-seat and tighten it up. It may work for a season or so before re-application. But it beats risking breakage..
