I want to build bench seating with backs down both sides of this current rebuild. Ideally at the ends by the gas tank would be a small L shape. I tried to sketch out the idea in the pic. Anyone done this? Any pics or redirects to articles on it? What do I use for frame - is wood too heavy, friend told me to use aluminum stock to frame out. Not sure how to attach to sides of boat, etc.. I understand I am basically asking for instructions from start to finish. LOL

What you want is similar to the seats in the Glasspar Trident ('58 and '59). I would use plywood and attach them to the sides with epoxy and fiberglass tape.

Really not that hard of a project. I did it to a '67 Shell Lake a few years back. If I can dig up the pictures I'll post them for you. I used 1X3 pine framing, brass screws and 3M5200. Made the seat tops removable so there would be plenty of storage underneath.

Its an aluminum riveted boat, so not glass or resin to tie it to hull.

Rivet an AL angle seat frame together w some tab mounts that align w the vertical ribs beneath the gunwale and to the deck in the corners.

Skin the vertial sides w aluminum if you want it to be spartan or thin upholstered plywood.

Upholstered plywood seat bases w AL piano hinge to access storage inside.
