OK... I apologize for starting a secong thread on this, but some of my previous posts were a bit confusing, even to myself! I have a 1965 Seafair sedan. It is verified by registration as a 1965 Glasspar Seafair. It is REGISTERED as 19' ft. I am HIGHLY confused by this, as the Glasspar was supposedly only sold at 17' ft. It also has an I/O motor, and the steering is lefthand side! I have had one response explaining SOME of this, but nothing definitive to explain what this boat might actually be. I am very curious about the history of this boat, and would LOVE if someone could direct me where to go to find out the original info on this boat, as I am restoring it, and would like to keep as original as possible! Thanks for any help.

I don't know if you posted pictures under the proevious post - but pics are, as you know, worth a 1000 words.

The Seafair was not a 19' boat, but the Mariner and Club Mariner were. These were much larger boats not only in lenth but in beam and depth. Don't trust the registration, as they often contain the wrong info.

As for the inboard, yes it was available that way. Steering could be Port or Stbd. depending on what the customer wanted.

If you really want the scoop - go look at the Glasspar website.

I saw your pic of your boat and it does appear to be a Seafair, but from what I could tell it is not a 1965. Registration's are notorious for being totally incorrect. You need to rely on hull ID. The more pics you take of the actual boat and not the engine would help others to ID the year and type of Seafair you have.

C: I have owned a Sedan in the 60's here is your code.
1) ABOVE the wood cabin door should be the small brass plate with Glasspar pattern " 17X5---. FIVE meaning 1965 build. YOur prior post model #'s seemed to be in a differnt format ,? Indicating maybe 70's. Last 3 #'s on the plate is serial #
2) IF there is indeed a long recessed H.I.N. # in your hull post 1971.?
3) Yes models in the 60's had inboard / outdrives . Most collectors find it easier to work or change out outboard engines.
4) MOTOR VEHICLE DEPARTMENTS ARE ALWAYS MAKING TYPO MISTAKES. If a 19 was typed in a line vs 18 or 17 . They usually won't change. Just measure your hull with tape measure. Same for year , prior owner maybe guess , just to get a sticker & get ON the water.!
5) Left steering was usually a Local dealer set-up install if a LEFT HANDED person was buying. or just had that type of cable & length to use up .!

C: It is possible your Sedan is 1969. There are Glasspar brochures right here on F.G. in the LIBRARY showing the 68 & 69 Model years.
. LIke mentioned earlier this CATALINA (swimwear)co-brand era, also G-3 were slightly stretched in the length.
. Brochure lists 18 ft 2 " vs the mid 60's 17 1/2 ft .
.. Also there are some 9's in the prefix ,Suffix of the prior plate #'s you posted.
.DO you have any other cabin options, like a molded in sink , stove, refrigerator / ice box.? This would confirm late 69 - 74 as the mid 60's cabin only contained a vee bed.
. Lastly you may indeed have a 65 Sedan & prior owner used some other title , serial # tag from a salvage yard to get state paperwork issued on you sedan .??

I am going to the boat this afternoon to work on it more. I will take pictures of the hull, and look at the brass plate listing the actual serial numbers. Also, how important in restoration is it keep original gagues? They LOOK ok, but will have to see how they work!

BTW.... when we tore out the stringers, we discovered they are wood, and hand carved to fit the hull, NOT fiberglass.... any ideas if this is original, or if it might help determine what year this is? Thanks for all the help here guys, I am really developing a taste for this whole classics thing!

C: . I believe 1961 may have been the change over year for Glasspar Sedan to go from wood to F. G.
..However, your hull being the inboard MAY need the extra support / weight load of wood stringers.?.? Maybe prior work of another owner also. Just never know.?
. Not that many collectors tackle the extra weight / cost / repair a inboard MAY require, so just keep posting info , asking your questions, & we will all learn together.

OK... here is the official number direct from the brass plate over the cabin. It lists 4 cities, Santa Ana, CA, Nashville, Tn Olympia, WA, and Petersburg, VA. Serial#17XW9 0053, and it also says Glasspar. This was ALL on the brass plate! Anyone have any info to share based on this new info from me?? I will post a link to the new FB album witht hull pictures. (for some reason I can't upload here) Any help is greatly appreciated.

Based on the hull ID tag: Seafair Sedan, built in Olympia, Washington in 1969, hull number 53 off the line.

By then Larson owned Glasspar. They could have stretched the hull to 19 feet for the inboards (and definetly used wood stringers to support the motor).

Would like to see more pics, but can't get the new link to your album to work.

How big are they? Your image file can be a maximum (width x height - size): 2048x2048 - 1024 KB. That may be the problem.

Some people are like slinkies... Not much good for anything, but they sure are fun to push down the stairs.
