TOPIC: Dehumidifier?

Dehumidifier? 7 years 11 months ago #128428

Hello

I have now successfully 'Popped the top' on my owens runabout and am setting about removing the partially rotten transom.

Luckily the transom gets drier nearer the sole/floor. Although damp the sole/floor ply is in very good condition and very solid.

In an effort to dry it out I am considering removing the glass skin on the sole/floor.

Then placing a dehumidifier in the hull and sealing the hull with a plastic sheet to draw out the moisture.

Has anyone done this?

I'm concious that it may be unwise to dry out the timber too quickly.

Does anyone have any thoughts on that?

Well ? If you already popped the top, and plan on cutting away the skin ? Why not just replace the wood ?

If you can remove the glass covering the wood then the floor is no good as the glass should stick to it . as chuck says replace it since your down there anyways, you will have a better job in the end, also you can check out your stringers too. greg
