Very new to boats with a odd project. 8 years 1 month ago #126629

Hello folks.
We are working on a project boat as a MWR for the guys here deployed to Djibouti Africa. I am very new to boating so please excuse my ignorance on a lot of this.
We sourced a old fiberglass hull from maybe the 70s out of a scrap yard. I've had an older 90s jet ski with a 701cc motor that I was working on for something to do in my off time. This led to an idea of putting them together because a good outboard here in Djibouti is next to none and a new one is crazy expensive.
Here are some build pics. I know I will have many questions along the way. I would love advise as well. We know this is very unconventional but Djibouti is a extremely poor 3rd world country with little to no retail shops worth anything. There are maybe 7 or 8 jet skis in the whole country. The boat was scrapped and waiting to be shredded into soil aeration.

Try re-posting your pictures. You are sure to get some good advice. I also order most of my parts off the internet, so as long as you can get deliveries to your post getting parts should not be a big problem. There are also guys here that can help with sourcing parts

Good luck!

We have access to USPS.
I use Amazon and Ebay because most vendors wont send to FPO I guess because of the extra customs form they have to fill out.
I have been collecting most everything I need but the parts I'm having trouble getting is the marine carpet and the 7/8" aluminum tube to make grab/ safety holds. Because were deployed I want as much safety avail even if I have to add a rail around the whole boat.

We just put on a first coat of Aquagard black bot bottom paint.
I think we were sent bad paint. This stuff was like clumpy tar. It too 3-4oz of water and 20 min to loosen it up to apply. We checked both cans and they were the exact same.

Not trying to be critical but you might consider asking questions before you do the work. It could save you a lot of work instead of doing something wrong, tearing it all apart and then re-doing it.

For one thing, unless the boat will be sitting for extended periods in salt water, there's no need for ablative bottom paint. If you wanted the bottom painted just for looks, you would have done much better with two costs of Rustoleum and some hardener, rolled and then tipped with a good brush. Rustoleum is cheap and it wears like iron. There are several videos on the internet that show the method.
