PLEASE SAVE IT!!!!

Myself and two other Glasspar owners started the Florida Glasspar Club 12 years ago with three members and we now have 169 members who own one or more Glasspars across the US!! All you have to do to join our Florida Glasspar Club is own a Glasspar!! I have a 1960 G-3 and a 1960 Tacoma, both original!! Have sold or traded 5 other Glasspars over the years.
We had 31 Glasspars in the water at a Rally in 2009 here in Florida.

There's not much left of that trailer but if you can, I'd save it. They just don't style things the way they used to. It's got nice lines. JMHO. :)

Oh yeah, it is worth the effort to save it. I own two vintage Glasspars, great boats and lots of followers. The Mariner is a version you don't find often, go for it!

It looks like the one at the wrecking Yard - Scrap Yard on the Dayton-Airport Road, just outside of Shelton, WA 98584.
If it is the same one, it used to sit along Hwy 101, about (2+) miles north of Hwy 102, 98584.
When it vanished I thought for sure someone had purchased it, but a month or so ago, there it was at SAP - scrap yard.

The Mariner is a beautiful boat

This Glasspar model made history too. In 1959 a transcontinental crossing of the US was made on a Mariner.

Grab it! If you decide not to take on the project, list it in the Glassifieds. You won't have any trouble selling...maybe at a profit.

Ide say if the hull is solid, then take it home! Very pretty boat, could be lots of fun, or a real head ache,, but worth the risk!

Re:Glasspar Club mariner, save it or leave it? 8 years 1 month ago #125721

How much would it cost to perform a decent restoration on something like this ? I ask because there is a similar boat sitting on highway 24 just south of me that has been abandoned along with a tri-hull beside a chicken coop. I'm going to go ask the farmer if he'd part with one or both for a decent price as they have both been left to the elements for many years and are both probably complete disasters. Seeing that finished Mariner got me thinking. It's beautiful. I'll get some pictures of them up this weekend. I can't do the work on them yet but I have the space to store them until I can. Thanks. Mark.

Re:Glasspar Club mariner, save it or leave it? 8 years 1 month ago #125735

LOL. You are WAY ahead (but who's counting?:)). I've only got one that's seaworthy and I'm fixing the trailer. I really want to get it wet this year and it purrs like a kitten. Neither of those boats is anything to brag about but I've discovered that I want to start saving these old beasts when and where I can. Somebody has to. If nothing else I might find some parts someone needs. Have a great day ! Mark.

Re:Glasspar Club mariner, save it or leave it? 8 years 1 month ago #125736

Sounds good Mark. Only 2 of the 3 are good to go right now as the GT-150 is a full blown winter deck off project. I can use the Triton right now with the 55 Johnson, but it needs a new transom before the '63 850 goes on it. So in effect, I only have 1.5 boats that are seaworthy, and all are in various states of restoration. My "worst" project the GT-150 is somewhat comparable to what you have in front of you with the G3, but I think you got the bigger clean-up project.

BTW - I am a Mark too.

Re:Glasspar Club mariner, save it or leave it? 8 years 1 month ago #125737

Like I said Mark, you're winning, but just by a half a boat. :) The G-3 is a nightmare for a beginner but there are answers here that will get me through it. I think all the G-3 owners are happy to see another one come back from the dead. The pocket cruiser I'm talking about has a weird emblem on the side (I haven't been close up yet) that looks like a boomerang on it's side with the point facing the bow. It's 2 dimensional and I'm thinking it's IN the gelcoat. Does that ring any bells with anyone ? I think it's an 18 footer but I'll know more after the weekend. The tri-hull I haven't got a clue about yet but it's an inboard too. I haven't got one of them yet :) I'm afraid my reach may exceed my grasp. lol.

That pocket cruiser is a Dorsett then based upon your emblem description.

Re:Glasspar Club mariner, save it or leave it? 8 years 1 month ago #125740

Wouldn't that be something ! You may be right but the point is going the other way and the wings are further apart. This emblem I think is painted in. It's about 18" X 18" (guessing from the road) and the middle is empty. There's no name anywhere I could see but I'll get pictures up this weekend. Thanks ! Mark.
