TOPIC: Hello there.

Hello there. 8 years 2 months ago #124873

I didn't see an Introduction thread so I figured I would just drop a line here to say hello to everyone. I just purchased a new to me 1968 Larson All-American 166 with a 1971 Chrysler 85hp outboard.

Welcome to the group. You'll find there's a wealth of information available from the members just for the asking. Those All-Americans are really nice little boats. Here's the Photo Log of one I restored a couple years ago:

Thanks guys, it needs a good cleaning and a polish. I need to de-winterize the motor (it was rebuilt then winterized back in 2006 and as been sitting since) The boat actually hasnt been in the water since 1972 and was sitting cover in a garage until about 2006 when the original owner passed and his neighbor, a boat mechanic, got it at the estate sale. He replaced all the carpet and went through the motor and then covered it and sat it in his storage garage. The boat and trailer still have all the original stickers, decals, and markings on them. The trailer is covered in surface rust, but other wise perfect.

That's beautiful, maybe as nice as the Avalon I got that had been stored for 50 plus years. Take your time an bring it back to its former glory. I don't know your level of expertise with fiberglass or your tool crib consistency but if you have any doubts about cleaning and polishing do yourself a favor and call a detailer who has a significant reference list of either boats or fiberglass cars.
I don't mean to suggest that you can not make it spectacular but it is a hell of a lot of work which can significantly diminish the enthusiasm of custodial care for a boat of this level. It's much easier to keep up a boat that has been well done to begin with. Just my 2cent.
