TOPIC: 10' G-W Invader Fuel Tank Placement

10' G-W Invader Fuel Tank Placement 8 years 4 months ago #122646

I am finishing up a restoration of a 1972 10' G-W Invader and can't tell where they originally mounted the fuel tank or the battery. Any insight on these placements would be welcome.

Thanks!

No room behind the seat? I think that's where they go.

The previous owners removed any sign of where both went and I am thinking of putting the battery behind the two bucket seats and moving the 6 gallon fuel tank to the bow just behind the floor and rib running across the bottom of the boat. With a fifteen foot fuel line this would work well and maybe it would plane better.

Any images of original placement on the 10' Rally model would be great.

Putting any weight (especially 60 lbs of fuel) in the front DOES NOT help the boat plane off!! It just slows it down! The only help for that is trimming the motor down or trim tabs! Put the fuel behind the seat along with the battery!!

There are trim tabs available for smaller boats, They are manually adjustable.

Geoffrey, I should be able to get a pic of the setup this weekend. There is a nice 10 footer near me.

Kyle,

Many thanks! I am curious to see how the tank and battery were mounted under the aft deck area.

Well, not much help here. The boat has gone downhill since the last time I saw it. The seats are not original, it was full of water, paint is peeling, and just a fuel tank was behind the seats (which is where I was told the tank and battery go)

Not a problem. I will make a small floor section for both the battery and fuel tank and place it behind the seats.

Thanks for trying.

Well, the restoration of the 1972 G-W Invader 10.3 foot Rally boat is now complete. Thoughts?

Yes your son needs a 14 footer for more legroom.

Very very nice...so clean and detailed. Wow - I sure hope I can get my restoration to look half as nice as this one. Used to run my 8' 3 point hydro with a friend who ran one of those with a 50hp merc, and my brother had an 11' cobra 2 seater with a 50hp merc also...we sure had some fun 38 years ago. I still have my 20hp merc, but no longer have my hydro. I still see those 10's here and there. That boat/motor combo will sure get plenty of lookers!

Not sure why my images won't load, but will reduce their size and post on Monday.

Till then, here is another Invader (unknown to owner) on Craigslist for $400.00. It looks like it needs all of the hardware, rubrail, name badges, etc., but still a start.

Not an Invader but a Polo brand small hydro. Could be a fun project.

My son wanted to use the Gulf colors used by Steve McQueen with his race cars. The number 20 will go on when the paint off gasses for a few months.

Friend of mine did place the gas tank up front in his 10-ft Invader and uses a motorcycle battery in the rear which doesn't take as much room. I drove this one and it did fine.
