TOPIC: Thunderbird Fuel Tank

Thunderbird Fuel Tank 8 years 4 months ago #122492

Hi All,
I'm finally getting around to work on my 69 Apache. I'm currently rewiring the engine, but I got to thinking about the fuel tank. I haven't popped the inspection plate yet, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the tanks on these boats. Are they aluminum or steel? What would be the unlikely luck that that it won't be full of holes? The filler pipe smells of old fuel, so I'm envisioning that it will need to be replaced. I figured I could always hook up a deck tank for now.
Thanks
Tim

1969? I would replace the tank anyway. Why take a chance. You can get aluminum or poly tanks on line or through a lot of marine dealers. It's a good investment.

True, just not relishing the thought of ripping the floor out.

Well, I'm a goof. I got very sick after I got this, and just put it under a tarp. I got the papers out, and remembered it's a 71. The engine was rebuilt in 86, and it was put in storage in 93. The Larson I sold was a 69.
