Congratulations, Joe! Damned nice find. The Y-block is worth the asking price but I don't think it's a V-drive. Let's see some photos of that engine. That giant hole on the front is missing the front grill, probably exactly like the one pictured below, a 1964 Saberflite. Better make sure the seller doesn't have it sitting in a barn somewhere. That would be a tough piece to find.

I've never seen one before either but I'll be looking for one in the future. Did you notice how the transom looks like an Edsel? The bow looks like something from Commando Cody in Radar Men from the Moon. Very different. Yeah, I need one...with a big block!

Was the grill on the bow a cosmetic piece, or did it have some other function?

It most likely funneled air down into the engine compartment. The nose has a big hole in it. If were just cosmetic, they would probably have just mounted the grill over solid fiberglass.

Thank you Jan, for the info and great insight. Unfortunately no nose grill in place, and yes there is a fiberglass channel in the bow behind it that channels the air into the engine compartment, didn't realize that until I read your post. The grill might be under the big pile of soggy leaves I'm hoping..

After a light bath.

Found this one in North Carolina. He has it listed in BOAT PARTS, not Boats...for good reason. It's rough, at least one stringer is shot, probably both, it has no engine or transmission, the transom is full of Bondo and the trailer is a write-off.

He's not giving it away. Also, there is no air intake in the bow like yours. I'd guess that 1962 was the first year for the grill and now that I've seen that front air intake, I'm spoiled. It's located fairly close to me but the price is too steep. As it sits, it's a $300 boat...tops.

That's what I ended up paying for this boat 300. The guy wanted 495 for it, I told him on the phone I was bringing my car trailer, he said I wouldn't need it, I get there, I get him talked down to 400 then we go to address the flat tires, they were trash and I was 3 hours away from home, so He volunteered another hundred off so after 300 bucks for the boat and buying 240 bucks in new tires I ended up with this boat... Going to get the bellboy going and then work on them both along the way.. You're right it's not a V drive I always get that mixed up.

Also here's some really good info on these boats

As you look at the nose peace in the two pictures they look solid, but I'm 100% positive that it is actually a screen/grill in the insert of these two boats.

That's a really super cool and unique boat. I really like that the air intake is functional, like a cold air intake making that one a hot rod boat. I also Love that windshield, looks like something found on a 1953 Corvette. Cool find, good luck with the project. B)

Joe...after taking a good look at this particular model, it's obvious that this boat is too good for you. Send it down to me and I'll give you your $300 back. You can keep the trailer. We classic boaters need to look out for each other. Trust me. I'm doing this for your own good.

Excellent find Joe!!!!!!!!!!!! The front bow intake is great for making sure the air gets down through the engine box and keep the fumes from accumulating. I didn't notice if there is a vent in the transom for the fumes to flow back out.

Thanks Paw, it is an interesting boat.

Hi Bob, no there's no vents on the rear, I'll have to investigate that further.

Sorry Jan, not for sale, at the moment. Have been in the bilge of the bellboy getting things ready by the time the fiberglass shows up this week.
might be a long shot but maybe this could happen with the original interceptor in the glastron lol. www.ford-y-block.com/343%20dyno.htm

Now that's what I'm talking about! That's one serious engine and check that compression! You'd probably have to burn 100 octane gas or some kind of nitro methane mix. You'll also need an explosion-proof engine compartment. That way, when it blows, it will only take out the entire bottom of the boat, not you.

Better bench test it first.............
