Looking at a '58 Tomahawk, no motor on a TeeNee trailer. Says to make a reasonable cash offer. Any Opinions?
I got a 135hp 'Rude to stick on the back

I paid $500 for my '59 with trailer and a small kicker motor. And it was a basket case compare to this one. I hope you're kidding about the 135 hp motor.

No idea, but I have seen that for sale for quite some time as I search Craig's list...I guess I should have put it in the "Sightings" forum. Good luck. Hope mutual respect and reasonable price prevails.

Yah Dr. I'm going to mail him and see what he expects. It would be about the same distance drive for both of us to Sheboygan.
Only kidding about the 135 unless I have to beef up the transom  ;)

Hi Cal,

Any chance of you letting the 135 go?

I'll trade you my 59 Ski Mate and some $'s to boot.

I will post pics if you have interest.
I could deliver as well.

Lets make a deal, Gene

No Monty here.

Just thinking that 135 might be about right for the Hydrocon.

Let me sit on that for awhile. Might have to do some horse trading for a different motor.
To be clear. the 135 is straight shift (not electric) has all the controls and the long sought after ign key. cylinders 1,2,3 have 120+ compression #4 is around 98 but might be just gummed up. It's soaking with fogging oil and pb blaster over the winter.
But in the meantime a picture of your offer might help :)
Trailer included??

The deal is done. He accepted my "reasonable offer". We had some lengthy mails back and forth, Hull is good, everything is there, the inside is trash, rotted seats etc and I assume the floor and transom are shot also but it's nothing that we don't expect with a 48 yr. old boat. Boat is in storage inside a barn now so he has to make arrangements to get it out. Tires and wheels are good but hope they can take a 125 mile trip on back icy/snowy roads.
If it's stored in a barn over winter is it then considered a "barn find"?

Hi Cal,
I'm glad you got it. My boat is not nearly as complete, needing windshield, gauges, and no trailer.
Looking foreward to seeing yours restored, Gene

Would any of you bring a Tomahawk boat (or any glassic) to the Tomahawk, Wi National show in August 3-6, 2016? I would love to see more glassics there. They keep display boats inside the ice hockey arena (minus the ice of course). The show is a great place to find things needed for restoration. I need to start my own list now. I found shopping without list or doing my research just left me overwhelmed in the ocean of parts.

Is this a "Spirit of Tomahawk" rather than a "Ski-Mate".

I have absolutely no idea what I'm buying, forgot to ask the guy the length. I see from the library that it could be 14 to 18 ft. If it's 18 the 135hp 'Rude will go on it.

I'm still a newbie, but based on the splash well and fin design, I'm guessing that it's the larger one.

Foul...no fair, you have good fenders on the trailer.
I might have gotten a pig in a poke but sounds like the seller leveled with me. Inside and seats are rotten, he never had it on the water only to float it to see if it leaked, it didn't. Said he originally intended to rebuild it to match his '57 Chev but his health went south, had to sell the car and now getting rid of the boat.

to be fair, your trailer is considerably more valuable and desirable than mine, and the boat looks to be in a lot better shape than mine, Also the great part about these boats, the only wood in them is the bit of wood in the upper transom and the seat back of the back seat..... great little boats for easy resto.....

I haven't done much with it yet.... bought a motor and some wiring, which reminds me, I need to order a key switch for it... haven't gotten beyond that... work keeps getting in the way of me setting up my shop for the winter down season.....

Kind of takes the fun out of buying from someone sick.On the other hand the last Amphicar I bought the very ill owner was actually very happy, knowing it would get done......Unlike a 1959 Playmaster I know!! Come and visit Florida during boat show March 18 19 20. Friday we will be playing at Venetian gardens.

Re:Reasonable offer? 8 years 7 months ago #119684

Based only on the fins I would say it is a spirit. The ski mate has a more pronounced start to the fin. Never seen that build up in the splash well before. wonder if that is after market.

And I have been bringing my Ski Mate to Tomahawk the last couple of years. I will bring it again in 2016. it is not a show boat but still looks ok.

I mailed the owner this morning to see if I can pick up Sunday AM.
Was wondering if this splash rail is after or factory?

Hard to tell from the craiglist pictures but it looks like a hand paint job also. First thing is make a punch list of to do's, strip it completely, high pressure and then survey. If it is a 16' Spirit I'll be happy, if it's an 18' I'll be happier. Is there any to tell other than a tape measure. Where would I find a number if there is one? I see the chains on the trailer for transom holdowns.

The plates on the back kinda makes me feel there was a larger motor on it at one time.

Bob, tks, just phoned the owner, it should be out of storage today, will call me when it's out. Seems it's blocked in by another collector car that the owner took the keys with him when it was stored so they have to wait for him to move his vehicle.
Looks like I keep jumping into this stuff...leap of faith :)

Todd, great looking boat! Other than size it's hard to differentiate from the Ski Mate.

Tudor, look magnifique! I finally towed the '58 home today during a &(%^&&*&&^%^ blizzard. I'll post some pics later.
The '58 has no built in seats just the two raised seating pedestals.
Have to find a pic of a "58 somewhere so I know what the seats looked like.

Finally got the puppy home. No I did not eat any of the dirty snow.
Although it doesn't look it, the windshield is perfect, no cracks or holes. Comes with a complete set of old Jeep seats  and chrome motorcycle fenders cut down to size.

I'll keep me out of trouble for a few months

There is an ID tag on the inside of the transom port side. Just says conforms to obmc blah blah blah. Max 50 hp 940# cap. and a four digit number, probably a serial #. I'll have to put a custom hood on the Evinrude. Last registered in 1998 as a 15 ft.
Right now it's thawing out, has about 4" of ice in the bilge. Somehow have to reconfigure the transom to hold up to a larger motor.
Actually in pretty good condition. some sanding and hole filling required.
Good thing it's cold...The renters left for the season.
