We had our annual winter new boat show this week. Wow is the industry in a horse power race. The biggest motor I saw was a four hundred horse Mercury. A pontoon with THREE 250hp motors. That checked in at one hundred ninty one thousand and some change. Jet skis with four hundred horse in them. I bet a lot of us drive cars without four hundred horse.
Anyway was fun to look. How many of these will will someone be lovingly collecting in fifty years?

$191,000 for a 750 HP raft with a living room built on top? Just think of the restored BOATS you could buy for that kind of money.

Apparently, American conusmers have a lot of disposable income. 70% of the full size trucks on the Market cost $45,000 and up... I couldn't afford the trucks or those boats if I had 3 jobs. I don't understand where people get the money. Imagine the payments.....

Like my (rest his soul) older brother used to say, "Banks got lotsa money", not quite sure how he meant to make a withdrawal though :)

If I had that kinda money it would go to lake front property first and then put a cheap ol' driver on the shoreline.

At the show many of the boats have there price tags on them with a payment say of only $189.99 a month on a twenty six thousand dollar boat. BUT at the very bottom in very fine print this is to be 120 month plan. Ahh that's only ten years.

Shaking my head and laughing aloud. Just sign your name and instantly loose 20k before you even take delivery.
I shudder to say what I had into my last off shore boat that was custom built for me ( Active Thunder) but I learned my lesson and lost my desire for anything like that again in a hurry. The biggest problem when you get into that area you get this itch called 2 footitus and 100mph just ain't fast enough.
Its worse than drugs and can kill ya just as fast.

I am like'n my Finns a whole lot better.

Found on the internet: $79,995

VERY SPECIAL 1931 CHRIS CRAFT 24’
RARE – TOTALLY RESTORED TRIPLE COCKPIT !
99% NEW WOOD – RARE DOWNDRAFT HOLLEY CARB !
SHOW WINNER - EASY TO USE – PLEASURE TO DRIVE – 5200 BOTTOM
MAKE US A REASONABLE OFFER !

If you can assume that a reasonable offer would be $70,000, you could buy this INVESTMENT instead of that over-powered raft, save $120,000 and enjoy zero depreciation.

Sorry...I can't help myself. I'm cursed with common sense.

Nautilus - love your post...love the Chris...and love your common sense. Lots of common sense found on this site/group and love it for that. Cool and class factor of the wood is unmeasurable over a triple toon imho.

You mean to tell me that my boat with an 8 hp motor is not good for what I use it for. :S I just don't think I need 400 hp to fish. Think they'd mind if I kept what little money I do have? ;)

In looking at that picture of Del... I realized that the cover of that Yamaha 350 has lines similar to the 1961 Evinrude Starflite III . Look at my avatar pic... The motorhood has the same waterfall on either side, and it even has the V shaped bump-out in the middle upper back.

Jan...AMEN!
Robert... I've seen some of the walleye tournament guys with about 500hp. I think they try to outrun the fish

And I thought I may have overpaid when I bought "Little Blue" for $2600 in 2013. I pull it with a used 2010 Toyota Matrix.

Almost $200K for a pontoon boat? You've got to be kidding me.....

Hello Del,

Yah you look like one of those garden trolls standing next to that behemoth. That’s a race that’s been running for over a hundred years.

Our local lakes shores were once dotted with summer cottages but most are gone now and have been replaced with multimillion dollar homes. These are the same folks that have that kind of cash to plop down for new mahogany trimmed Benningntons. The manufacturers have a market and will deliver a boat to please.

Thanks,
Terry
