I need to put together a good on-board tool/parts kit. I have an extensive collection that is in the truck, but is too big to take a long. Outside of the obvious (screw driver, pliers, adjustable wrench, needle-nose), what would you recommend?

Evidently, everything but the kitchen sink!

(and I feel certain if there was room, we'd bring the sink too.)

In addition to your list: A spare prop and ALL hardware to install it, electrical tape (smaller and almost as good as duct tape), sharp pocket knife, spare plugs and wrench, zip ties. Think about any repairs you are capable of doing on the water without parts, or with whatever parts you may bring, and tool up appropriately.

I bought a tool kit in a small molded case at Harbor Freight for the boat. I need to add a few things (like spark plugs), but it's a good all around tool kit for travel in general. I think it cost me 30 bucks.

in my cruiser i carried a extra battery, and a trolling motor, and had to use it twice, once just because i forgot to close the vent in my gas tank and water got in,i got out in the middle of the lake and stalled it,but it was a valuable lesson.john
