TOPIC: Redfish Shark 58-59 New Owner

Redfish Shark 58-59 New Owner 8 years 9 months ago #118616

Picked up a Redfish Shark this weekend. Very, very rough. Looking to connect with other Shark or Capri owners who have experience restoring these models.

Fabuglas,

WELCOME ABOARD.

ADDENDA: While it is well-known here to the old-timers of FG, that I'm no fan of REDFISH or Mercury outboards, I learned to waterski behind my uncle's 1959 model Shark with a Mercury OB & for the sake of nostalgia, I'd like to own its "twin".

5 Redfish. We should have a fish fry. Seems like the big challenge will be finding a hardtop. I will post pics when I learn how to do it.

Fabuglas,
I'm not much of a computer wizard by any means, but a pal helped me download a free program 'IrfanView' a few years back, and I use it a lot to re-size my pictures from 4000X3000 down to 1100X734 so I can post them here.
Once you successfully re-size your pictures, you can only submit one at a time. Then once your new post has posted, go back in and 'edit' the post at which time you can add another picture.
Repeat this process until you have posted all the pictures you want.
If you can't find this program - or any other issues with re-sizing, just post and someone wiser than the old doctor will assist.

Thanks Doc. I will see about shrinking the file size of the pics now that I understand that may be the rub.

Tried shrinking pic with no success. We will leave the pic thing to those with the technical skills for such things.

If you are using a Microsoft Windows system they have a program/app called "paint" it is on your computer already as a freebie. Open that program and drag you picture(s) onto the blank area and then just click "resize" on the top panel, check the "pixel" spot that pops up and just change the number to 1000 or 800 etc. It automatically changes the size. You then have to "save" your change either by clicking the little square up on the upper left corner, or just hold down the "ctrl" button and hit "s" at the same time. Your picture will now be sized to post here.
Easier than adding another program to an already confusing computer.

yep...the hard tops are hard to find, but they do come up from time to time....we have three, including the rare 61 that flips to let people in....they are really cool to look at, but without you are 5ft 2 they are a real pain (literally)....there are some guys on our facebook page that have restored theirs and the moderator is the founders daughter.

I re-size my photos in "PAINT." RIGHT click on your photo. When it asks "OPEN WITH," choose "PAINT." At the top, click the option to RESIZE. Reset the percentage to whatever you choose (I generally use 40%) and then hit "OK." Then at the top, click "FILE" and then "SAVE AS." You can save the reduced photo with any name you choose and send it to any place you want to keep it.

Larry at vintageboatworks may be able to make a top for me. I am looking into that but, it seems a long shot. The tops Larry has made in the past were for 17 ft Sea Sharks, not the 14' Sharks. By the time he gets done chopping, channeling, shrinking, etc., it may not look right. I'll know more after I send some dimensions to Larry to review.
