...will take place this weekend. This will be our 9th Annual cruise in and around the Delta. Planning for a shorter run than last year's 70 miles, we are going back to 2009 running a similar route, cruising around Brannan and Twitchell Islands, 50 miles. Forecast is for a really nice day; weather and water conditions should make this a great day to be on the water with fellow glassic boaters, friends, and family. For you Cali folks, if you happen to be in and around the area, you are welcome to join in. We will be launching from B & W Resort and Marina in Isleton, CA this Saturday morning.

A visual of our route on Saturday.

One of these years... At least if everything works out right I'll be stationed out of Carson City, instead of L.A..

Have a great time!

Hello Eduardo,

Sounds and looks like lotsa fun. Planning on taking Mama Mia! on the road next year and she has never been out West. We have family in AZ and CA so who knows a fall cruise out there next year is a good possibility.

Thanks,
Terry

Thanks Rick. We have 9 vintage vessels and 11 parties total joining in. Most of them are out of town as far as 3 hours away. Only one local person out of the 11 is local; I myself am an hour away. Fall is our favorite season and love cruising the Delta this time of the year. It would be awesome if you could join us; matter of fact if everything works out for you and you are stationed in Carson City and you're willing to visit the Delta, I'd be glad to host on your occasion. I did this for a couple of Long Beach and San Diego folks that came up for the Day on the Delta back in April, 2013.

How's the progress by the way with the second boat?

Terry, that would be awesome. If you come out west and cruise the Delta, GSG and I would be glad to host you and the family. Lots of Glasspar folks on the left side and would love to join in I'm sure.

I took quite a few photos of the day. Here is a link to my album. It was a glorious day. Well-planned. 80 degree weather! And an awesome group of kind and considerate people. Can't ask for much more. This was my first time and hopefully not last time for meeting the group.

...and it was a good one. In the 9 years that we have been doing this, we’ve had some great Fall Glassics Cruises in the past. This year was no exception. I remember a member on GSG saying one time how just within days, we were able to organize a gathering in such a short time. These Fall cruises are usually that way where we are not given a lot of time, but yet within our old boat community, we seem to come together as a group knowing that just being out there with everyone--we know it’s going to be a great day.

There were a few first timers that joined in on the fun this past weekend. All but one local person was from out of town, a total of 8 old boats and 9 parties.

While some already had their boats in the water, it was really cool to see folks helping each other, getting their boats ready to launch, holding the boats off the dock, etc. David Martin was also a big help. Thanks David! It was the same way when we returned. For example, Justin and Emily pulled in to the dock with the rest of us at the end of the cruise. They helped others and made sure everyone was out of the water and safely on their respective trailers before they went back out on the water. Great people we have in this community, right?

Reminds me of my favorite NFL team.

My wife Mercedes had a variety of hot morning beverages and choices of freshly baked pumpkin cupcakes for everyone. The morning treats were popular with everyone, I think, even the fellow who takes the launch fees.

The entire cruise went very well. The weather was very nice, partly cloudy in the morning turning partly sunny after lunch. There was barely a breeze and the water was as calm as you will see on the Delta. As we were cruising South Mokelumne heading to the big river, we started seeing the water hyacinths. So I lead the way dodging around this stuff for our group to follow. Ron Henry was as surprised as I was. We couldn’t believe so much many were in the water. So if you know how large the San Joaquin is, you can imagine hyacinths everywhere. Staying on the northwest areas of the Delta, you just don’t see as much as in other areas. We had to deal with this green invasion on the San Joaquin, 3 Mile Slough, and the lower Sacramento. The river is so wide at this area, hyacinths weren’t an issue anymore. And once we got into the narrower parts of the Sacramento before Isleton, we didn’t see many more thereafter. Rio Vista, which is one of the widest waterways on the Delta and usually prone for wind, was really nice. Always cool to cruise around that area under the historic Rio Vista Bridge. I was at the tail end and to see all the boats take their separate routes WOT, pretty cool. Other than the few no wake zones, it was pretty much as go as fast as you want. In our case, or could?

... at the dock.

This is Jerry's '60 Glasspar Sunliner custom, setup similar to a Sedan but without cabin. And with his new Honda motor and hydraulic trim tabs, this vessel looks like she rode beautifully on the water.
