I've had this old engine for a very long time. Never have known what it was and still don't. Any ideas? It was originally green.

I don't see a identical pic in any library with the bump on the top of tank, or that rear carry handle..
The name of WESTERN AUTO is a 1st guess, they were actually a WIZARD... The style looks
Like a 53-56 ??. Web would say MERC was a mfg in those years, but the shape is not a Merc.
Maybe the power head mechanical is close.. I would post the pic over on the A.O.M.C.I board
As a guest.... Should get a quick ID over there.

I really think its a scott atwater. Guessing 7.5 or 5 hp. I had a 7.5 that I ran on my 8' minimax that I, built when I was twelve.

It's a Johnson SD-10 or SD-15; I don't know the difference between the two models. The late SD-20 had a remote tank. SD-10 was made from 1940 to 1942; SD-15 from 1946-1948. All were 16 HP motors.

Wow! There she be. Thanks Handy Andy. And thank all you guys for your input. This motor had been in a barn for ???years and didn't run. I got it to run, took it to the city lake, stuck it on a jon boat and it pushed the little jon boat pretty fast. One thing's for sure though, you better be pointed in the direction you want to go when you get it started 'cause she's always in forward.. no neutral or reverse LOL.Talk about a "dockbuster".
