This summer I purchased a mini-boat at 10' in length. With fall here I need to go pick it up before the snow hits. The boat is currently in New Hampshire (I'm out of Michigan) and it does not come with a trailer.

What's the best way to pick the boat up? I looked into a 12 x 6 utility trailer from uHaul but they said the max trailer speed on those is 55 mph. I also have a small trailer I use for my Speed Queen and Glen-L Squirt, but the trailer is very light when empty and I'm not sure if it would do more than 55 mph either.

What do you guys normally do in these situations? I'd rather not hire a company to pick it up as it would cost more than I paid for the boat.

Any tips or advice welcome!

i dont know what you'd be driving out...but for me , if you have a pick up..i'd see if it would fit in the back of a truck... i built a rack in the back of my truck once before.. like a ladder rack.. to transport a 14ft boat from indiana to jersey.. loaded it upside down and strapped it down..

I'll be driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee so unfortunately that won't work for me. I'll look into uHual's pickups though, they might have something that could work.

Only 10ft long I'd get a friend with a pick-em-up truck, offer free meals/drinks, lodging and a mini vacation.

U-Ship will put it up for bids if you have deeper pockets.

UHaul says 55 on all their trailers I think. No one pulls any UHaul at 55. I pulled one from Florida to NJ at 70 or more all the way. Doug

Thanks for all the replies! I looked into uHaul's trailers again and as Doug stated, it sounds like no one actually follows the 55 mph limit. Sounds like it more for uHaul's protection than safety of the trailer. Being the trailer is still the cheapest option I'm going to give that a try.

You are correct. the 55 limit is only for their protection (so if you have accident at speed faster than 55 they have no liability.

Their trailers are no different than any one elses - just bearings on axles.

Drive safely!!!!
