TOPIC: Stupid question time - Boating magazines??

Stupid question time - Boating magazines?? 9 years 6 days ago #115766

Was wondering around my local Barnes & Noble and checking out the different magazines. Are there any periodicals/magazines that specialize in vintage power boats other than vintage Chris Craft?

Also is there a good magazine for just general power boating, not all the fancy smansy high speed low drag stuff, just family boating for the average guy? How-to's and such?

For vintage boats:

The Bob Speltz Land-O-Lakes Chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society has the BoatHouse Quarterly magazine:

acbs-bslol.com/chapter-information/the-boathouse-quarterly-magazine/

At the national level, the Antique & Classic Boat Society also publishes "Rudder", a quarterly magazine: acbs.org/news-events/rudder/

The Antique Outboard Motor Club has the Antique Outboarder magazine, also published quarterly: www.aomci.org

Used to subscribe to trailer boat mag which was fairly decent but it went deep six in 2011. :(

Many of the chapter publications of the Antique & Classic Boat Society have good coverage of these topics. But you have to be a member of the chapter to get their publication.

"Classic Boating" from Oconomowoc, WI is good - mostly inboard coverage. Subscription only.

"WoodenBoat" magazine is excellent but covers mostly sailing vessels.

The Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club has a top notch publication called the "Brass Bell". Century has their "Thoroughbred" magazine.

I like the monthly magazine, "Messing About in boats". It's a black and white magazine/newsletter with most of the articles written by readers, boatbuilders and "group" leaders. Article range from building boats, trips and expeditions, activities of museums and clubs, Bolger designs, small classified and a couple pages of small informative ads grouped together. It's been my regular daily boaty reading since the 80s. Fiberglassician Dan Rogers has posted a bunch of interesting articles in the last few years.
