TOPIC: WINDSHIELD SOURCE????

Friends,

As some here know, I've found/bought a 1961 (??) Black/white TEXAS MAID OSPREY on a period (and San Antonio-BUILT) trailer to restore.

Everything is there except the seats & the windshield. = Someone recently said that they had some original windshields for sale, but I cannot find that particular post.

Also, I need a "tracing" of the front seatback, so that I can cut the plywood to the correct dimensions.
(The OSPREY has a "split" front bench seat, that is just padding & upholstery over plywood.)

I have 70" tip to tip NOS Taylormade windshields, Buffalo NY area, $150 each.

They don't ship well or cheap, so local pick up is probably best.

I hate to ask but HOW do you correctly measure for a windshield?
(I seriously doubt that the OSPREY is more than about 60" at widest portion of the deck. Haven't measured it yet. (The maximum width of the hull is 64".)
Also, IF I remember correctly, the correct windshield was only 10-12" tall for the little 14 foot ski-boat.

TRUTHFULLY, most of "the cool guys" took the windshield OFF & stored it away or "pitched it out", as in the late 50s & early 60s it was thought that a windshield-less profile was "sleeker"/"sportier looking".)

We re-measured the dimensions of the windshield today. - It needs to be 60 inches wide & 8 feet around the curve at deck level.

To maybe help in your search I went out and measured the windshield on my 63 Shell Lake Tempest. It is 60" wide but might be a inch or so short of 8' at the deck. I had no help to measure. It is 20" from the rubber on the deck to the top of the trim but the angle lays it back alot so it looks pretty sporty. Hope this helps.
