Hi it's been awhile as I'm ready to decide if I should use the old pully with the coated wire stearing system or if I need to change as I'm going with a 70hp 1977 evenrude on this 1957/59? Bell Boy I was hesitant as there is more tork on a 70 Hp as this was originally designed for a 35 HP
ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS is greatly appreciated
Thanks
If I go with the pully system I can keep my same wheel and cap that's between the wheel and dash board.

If the Cable and Pulley are All in good working order, and the pulley attachments are all good and sound and you are confident that they will not FAIL under load, then I would not have any problem using it. I have a 1962 Lonestar with a 85 HP Evinrude and it works just fine with the old R&P system.

Yep running an 80hp on mine with the same steering system. you just have to be ready for the torques steer when you gun it.

Well unfortunately I'm at work and can't remember where I got my parts from. It's in my favorites at home. I know marineengine.com has stuff but that's not who I got mine from.

Here's a link for pulleys on ebay. The plastic coated cable is available at most farm stores or big hardware stores aka ACE, True Value etc.

I have a '63 Lone Star with a 105 hp Chrysler. Pulley system. My cable just broke but I'm guessing they lasted for 50 years. Me and my wife strung new cable. Got it at Lowes. They sell a spool of 50 ft. It was about 8 feet more than i needed.

I HIGHLY recommend that you use small bolts and NOT screws when attaching the pulleys. That way you're assured they won't ever pull out of their attachments. Also Pre-Grease them Really well and it will last a long time and go a long way to preserve the plastic pulleys and also keep them quiet.

Bellboy33,

Fwiw, I've seen commercial fish boats with HUNDREDS of HP & with utterly massive torque using pulley/cable steering.

I second My Flamingo's comment about bolts/nuts & add lock washers over fender washers, to ASSURE that the bolts won't "pull through". = That will likely last longer than we will.

just my OPINION, satx

OUCH!!! price of painting

thanks for all the help.
I have a new topic as i recently took my boat up for painting but i was BLOWN AWAY at the price.
Im thinking about painting it myself as i could buy the sprayer myself for the price of the paint job.but i have never painted a boat before and i dont want to mess up as i have been sanding for two years now.
not sure if this would be a good idea to paint it myself as Im not a painter.
I have four pieces to paint as it also has a hard top.
any help is appreciated.
I know this would be a process but wow this is just a 16,' bell boy.
Thanks

p.s. I have all the screws, and hardware off the boat and most all the sanding is done.
