I had posted a thread on the JEGO area about tnt retrofit for my '61 Jonhson. Since then I decided to keep the original tnt on the '73 135hp Evinrude and just swap the entire motor on the boat. I rebuilt the tnt motor and the tilt cylinder, both work fine. The trim cylinder was toast, the wire potentiometer inside the cylinder was rusted and falling apart, just garbage. Since this was only for trim do I really need that if I just want to raise and lower the motor at the landing for trailering? I also put new O rings in the trim cylinder so it does not bleed. Assuming that the tilt ram is sufficient to raise and lower the motor. The unit is still on my bench.

Sounds like you're talking about the trim gauge switch Cal, which is not necessary for operation. You just wouldn't be able to hook a trim gauge up to it.

My thoughts also Bob.
Sooner or later I will put the unit back on the motor which is on a stand and try it out. The cylinders are large compared to others I've seen so guessing only one raises the motor, the other is for the trim meter and support.
Thanks for the backup.

Anyone have a wiring schematic for the older '73 three wire trim setup???

Never mind:)
I figured it out myself, Just completely disconnected the "trim" cylinder and ran only the tilt. Works like a champ. Plugged the trim cylinder and left it in place to act as a shock absorber .
