TOPIC: SEA FLY BOATS????

SEA FLY BOATS???? 9 years 2 months ago #113692

Friends,

Has anyone ever heard of a molded plywood boat made by SEA FLY?

It's a 17 foot runabout, on a trailer near Killen, TX.

I've looked in the FG Library & found ZILCH, as well as on google.com

Nope. I couldn't find anything either. In the Navy, Sea Flies were flying fish. If that wasn't their logo, it should have been.

farmerboy,

Can't say. = ALL that I've so far discovered is that they were registered as a for-profit corporation in mid-1956 in Houston, TX & that the official representative was a person named: C. Dean.

To ALL,

I found out today that there were TWO "Sea Fly" boat companies.

ONE that was once in Houston, TX that built nothing except molded-plywood 16-20 foot RUNABOUTS & DECKED OPEN FISHERMEN boats until some time in the early 1960s.
(The OPEN FISHERMAN that I've found seems to have been sold without a windshield & a single plywood bench seat without upholstery or even loose cushions. - I talked by phone to a member of the family this morning & was told that, "
the boat has always been in the family since it was bought new in late 1960. It never had a windscreen or padded seats.)

AND

Another (evidently unrelated) SEA FLY BOAT COMPANY, INC. that is (in theory at least) still in business somewhere in New England & which built/builds Fiberglass center-console fishing boats, from 16 to about 45 feet length.
(I can find NOTHING about the second company except a few photos on google.com & NO indication that they either still build boats OR that they have ceased business.)

IF any reader knows any other details about the Houston, TX boat-builder OR anything further about their boats, please advise.
