It took some effort but finally got the old girl wet for the first time and the season is winding down. Ran like a champ.

Pretty sure that's a Wisconsin license. Up here that means one more month of good weather, then maybe 2 weeks of hit and miss. Then it's over.

One main reason that you folks "way up there" have so many nice classic/antique boats is your short boating season.

Here in Dixie & the Southwest, we have a MUCH longer season (In South Texas, the "boating season" is about 10-12 months long.) & the boats (and especially a lot of the outboards) simply are often worn out from use.
(In deep South Texas, it is said that it's too cold to go out on the water, "when the Canadian girls start wearing cover-ups over their bikinis".)

Gotta take these in order.
Frog helped me name the boat, not because it is pulled on a trailer or because it can pull tubes etc. It's because the first year of running I was pulled into port by coast guard and sheriffs depts. on a few occasions.

It's an old 17' Shell Lake that was trash, crushed/caved in topside, no windshield, interior was sun burned and crispy. All Honduran mahogany. Motor was revamped with a point/capacitor ignition thanks to Bruce's help. Rides like a dream.

Trouble with short boating season is cold weather and freezing temps. A lot of the boats in this area have cracked or split bilges or decks, cracked engine blocks etc. Some owners just don't know how to store them, leave 'em with water in the bilge and ice does the dirty work. A majority don't even cover them and snow and dirt just ravage the insides like nobody's business.

Those are the ones I pick up on the cheap.

Looks great Cal. You should think about bringing it to the next Rally in 2017! As you saw this year everything is welcome, especially when it looks that good.

As I was once stationed at Ft McCoy, WI I know all too much about snow/ice.
(MOST of the people that I knew kept their boats indoors/under cover.- I know that mine were.)

Had her out yesterday with my son's family. Ran like a champ and burned out all the old gas from last year.

Bay of Green Bay was mirror smooth all day, perfect.

Satx, last time we were in San Antonio I bought a souvenir T shirt, at one of the river walk gift shops, gray with an armadillo pic on it. Wore that shirt last Saturday at a classic boat show and took best fiberglass classic prize with the Lone Star Mystic. Gotta be something from the Lone Star state. Now it's my lucky shirt!
