Hello everyone,

So I am a bit intimidated by the wiring of boats. Is there a basic diagram someone can share that simply shows the basic staples of a boat...Motor, Sternlight, Bow Light, Horn. I tried to find a nice YouTube video regarding this but didn't find anything to my liking. If anyone has a simple diagram, video, or good website I would truly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!
Michael

Here's a VERY simple diagram of wiring for lights and horns. Some boats have a three way switch for navigation lights so the anchor (stern) light burns alone and when underway the push/pull switch is pulled out completely to turn on bow lights and stern light. I've seen both. A simple on/off switch will just turn on both lights together.
There are other ways of wiring through the ignition system that gets a little more complicated but this diagram is a very BASIC way of doing it that will work.

Boats, especially classics, are very simple. no power door locks and such. The only thing that makes it different than a car is that you must also run a ground, or negative wire. All your switches will run on the positive side of the circuit.
I can get as technical or as basic as needed, just let me know if you run into any snags.

And NEVER use wire nuts.

Best wire to use is anchor wire for marine use

And either heat-shrink or liquid electrical tape on all your connections is an excellent idea as well.
