14ft Nylox help!! 9 years 4 months ago #111060

Does anyone know how big of a 2 stroke and 4 stroke I can safely put on my 1958 14ft Nylox, there is no coast gaurd plate that states information anywhere on my boat.

There is a formula that has been posted on here several times used by boat builders, maybe one of the gang can post the link for you. I believe it's going to be around 40HP to 50HP max on that size and style boat however.

Welcome aboard, btw!

Okay, I have a 45hp McCullouch on right now, but I'm thinking about grading in the future probably to a 4 stroke. Any ideas on how big I can go meaning for weight limit on the transom

i think in HP comparisons, nothing is lighter than the vintage mercs. my 62 merc 700-70HP, weighs 170 lbs, whereas the vintage evinrudes and johnsons, weigh substantially more. don't know about the 4 strokes but someone here does, i'm sure. ron

The brochure here:

Says 45. Given the extra weight of a 4 stroke though, not sure how that would apply, esp. given the size of the boat...

I hung a 65 hp on a 14' Crestliner. Sold it to a guy who wanted to go fast! I did have a new solid transom though.

Kylebbowker,

WELCOME ABOARD.

IF it was my boat, I would NOT exceed the recommended 45 HP, for "personal liability" reasons & SAFETY.

yours, satx
