Seems I got myself into another project where I learn by doing. Bought this Lone star Mystic from a salvage yard with a EZ loader trailer, and "58 Johnson super quiet 35hp for $250. First glass Lone Star that I've attempted. Find out there is no frame! It's what they touted as "sandwich" design. Glass hull, about 3" of foam and a thin glass inner lining, no keel board or anything. Nothing to build off of so everything will have to be glassed to the inner shell. Got the transom removed, only wood on the entire boat. Should be interesting.

No title, registration, only the hull number and 1996 reg number. Went to the local WI DNR and less than 10 minutes and $39 I walked out with a new registration.

Hi Cal,

Good luck on your project. Cool looking boat and the price was right also.

I have a hard time saying much good about the WI DNR but they sure make boat registrations EZ.

Hi Cal, responding to your post from yesterday. I must have missed this. Yes, my cousin and I used to own a ’65 year model, red on red. Then I owned her outright when my cousin found another old boat. It was my very first glassic in June of ‘05.

Fortunately for me Cal, she was in decent shape already. All I did was clean her up and gave her a good polish. With no floor and stringers to deal with, it was a quick in the water project. The transom was very solid. We just had to find the right motor, which we did, a ’83 Mercury 50 hp. With the V bottom long transom hull design and 14’ she is fast, nimble and performs incredibly well. I’ve owned a few glassics since and this hull is one of the better ones comfort and performance wise.

To answer your question, I’ve never had to split the hull and deck Cal. Sorry I can’t help you there. I can however find some of the older pictures and send them to you. Can’t believe that was 10 years ago now.

Congrats on finding this Mystic. Don't see many of these around. Though she is a small boat, you'll have a blast with her on the water.

Thanks for the reply. This "project" is almost as bad as the Herters I did a few years ago. I'm plowing through it one day at a time. Have the topside upside down on the garage floor now repairing glass splits and putting in a new dash backing board. Going Red over white.
Have a 1958 Johnson RDS-20, 35hp. to hang on the back but that is also in pieces now. Marineengine.com sent a shipment notice yesterday for the coils a impeller :)

Heck ya, I need lotsa pictures.
What did you do with the inside bottom? This one was soooo bad and cracked up I had to to glass the entire floor area and put in a new layer of 1/4 plywood and then another layer of glass. I made up new strip flooring like Edwardos' pics.

I got lucky. When I found the boat it was a one owner and was taken care of. It did have one crank running from the shift controller back to the transom. I fiberglassed it. quick fix. I did reconfigure the interior slightly. For some reason it is not allowing me to post any pictures.

99% of picture posting problems is the size. If you have paint or similar photo app resize them to about 100 pixels and then try posing them again.
What I usually do is open my pic file(s) and drag them to paint, resize and save them to my desktop. Then when you post click on the "browse" 'select image file to attach' button below the post area, click on your desktop picture and it will transfer to the 'img' box and then submit.

Other than that, this mystic was a basket case. Glass cracks all over the place, topside, interior, transom well etc. I think it was underwater for some time because there was sand and small gravel in places it shouldn't have been.

She's a beauty. That pic will get printed and put up in the workroom. Same color scheme I'm going for. I'm thinking of doing the original back center seat though.
