TOPIC: Anyone recognize this speedo?

OK, I know it's a speedometer

Pulled this off my latest project and want to put it on Ebay. The boat is a 64 lone star with a '58 johnson but I believe the speedo is '50's. The finish was really chipped up crackle black so I refinished it in a satin but the guts are original. There are no markings on the back to indicate model or part number. I searched Truspeed and could not find anything that resembled this model.
PS. It works!

I found this on Ebay and it claims to be 50's but the one I have was not chromed but cast painted aluminum with a much older looking dial.

These were made by Muskegon Outboard Specialties Co. of Muskegon, Michigan. Later the company that made them was named Carpenter Corporation. The trademark lists 1947 as the first use of "Truspeed".

From my quick research on Google Books digitized copies of Popular Boating, I would guess early 60's, by '64 the style changed:

Wow, thanks for the info. I appears to be a specialty with maybe a Century logo. I see no other in the magazines that looks like it.


Could you tell me how you got to that book selection? Interesting ads I would like to page through.
