is there any NEW way to polish a windshield, other than to go thru those 4 agonozing steps tha jag posted years ago. don't want to use a disc sander for the fear of burning the plexi-glas. i've never used one. i've asked a few body shops around here but they won't touch it. ron

Mine was actually beyond repair so I cut it down to six inches and kept putting paste wax on it. Over several days of a few times a day it was pretty darn clear. But like I said it was beyond repair, cracks and scratches.

Mine was considered junk. I used wet sanding in multiple steps. First with 1000,1500,2000,2500 then buffed with foam pad using 1500 light compound then some actual plastic polish.

It is now at least useable.

dave,, did you use an electric buffer? if yes, how do you know how much pressure to use without burning the glass? ron

Has anyone tried one of those headlight polishing kits? I have used one on several cars and it seems to work pretty good. In the kit you get polishing ball that goes on a drill, polishing compound, and a soft cloth to clean it with after you are done. After a coat of wax it holds up for quite a while and after you do it the first time it doesn't take long to touch it up.

I have to admit, I have not read Jags article, but your windshield does not look too bad. I used a polisher on my windshield ( do not use an angle grinder, they spin way too fast ) I used a rubbing compound first with a wool bonnet, then cleaner then polish with a foam pad. You can probably rent a polisher. I would say you would want it in the 1000 to 1500 rpm range, the weigh of the buffer is probably enough.

Good luck!

Cheers

Ron, I don't trust myself with my 'lectrick polisher, probably melt a hole in the windshield. Here's what I use for most of my projects. Get 'em at a local auto store or big box. It doesn't take much elbow grease either. You can repeat the steps over if needed. When finished just put on a coat of car wax.
