I have a 14 foot aluminum boat under restoration. It is registered as a 58 Model. The serial number plate indicates that is was built by Lund Metal Works. Anybody know when this company called itself by this name?

Lund Metalcraft was the firm run by G. Howard Lund at New York Mills, MN. He was a heating and ventilating contractor and sold and serviced furnaces and he did metal work.

He made a boat for his own personal use circa 1948. He began making a few boats for sale and that grew into a small portion of his business. The boat operation was still called "Lund Metalcraft" in 1968 when it purchased Shell Lake Boats, Inc. It was soon after that when they changed the corporate name to Lund America, Inc.

So... the "Lund Metalcraft" name was used for the boats from circa 1948 to about 1969.
