I found a nice Nautaloy Airtek metal steering wheel. I am missing the part that holds the center cap on the wheel. Looking for ideas. The cap does not have a hole in the center.

Thank you,

Randy

It may sound stupid but I once used plumbers putty to hold something on once. It held it good enough to keep it there. It was bolt caps on a toilet that became broken. It held them on even through moppings. :silly:

Randy, what does the hub look like the cap attaches on to. Maybe figure out a clip to snap it on with. I'm pretty sure there would have been some type of clip.

I agree that I am missing a clip but have no idea what it would look like.

The super magnet idea is good. If you can clean if well so JB weld will stick. Those suckers are strong and the bigger ones are downright dangerous.

Try something like this. Stick a round magnet on the end of the steering shaft. Then goo the inside of the cap up with JB and press it on. Leave it for a few hours and if your measuring and spacing was right the hub should pull off with the magnet, and then snap back on.

I have used those inch in diameter super magnetic cup feet to hold antennas temporarily with great success.

The push - on cap was held in place by a large pot metal nut made specially for this application. It has an 1/8" tall skirt around the base that acts as a spacer & washer against the steering wheel. The faceted hexagonal portion of the nut is just the correct size to make an interference fit to the cap. Look at the vertical ribs on the circular adapter underneath the cap - those are what hold it onto the nut. You will likely have to make something up if you can't source an original.

randyr, I have one of those nuts if you need it, it won't work on my steering shaft.
