Robert, very nice , a lot of fun watching those old boats, I road one when I was a kid , done in iowa on lake okabojie, my grandparents lived in spirit lake and that was just next door. greg

tremendous video...watched it twice already.really makes ya wonder if they had bad respiratory problems back then. the smoke is horrendous!

Great footage. Lots of interesting things to see besides the stern wheelers. Check that helm wheel at 17:40. It must be 8' point to point. Everyone looks to be having a good time but the stock market crashed 11 days later.

Actually, the initial stock market crash happened on October 24th, 1929...exactly six days after the steamboat film was taken. The 28th and 29th (Black Tuesday) was the big crash.

I just showed this to Mom and she remembers the La Belle at 2:04 ,Crucible and Victory coming to Kittanning. We are about 35- 40 miles North of Pittsburgh and the smaller boats could get here.

Great video Robert. Sadly,I'm sure there were some devastated people a few days later with the "Crash". That smoke was horrible. An EPA "green" person would have a stroke,being in all that pollution. Heck,I probably would too
 I didn't realize steamboats were still so prevalent on rivers in the 1920s. Really enjoyed the vid. karma to you. |

Well they could not get here anymore. obuma shut down the locks so we have a string of ponds between the dams. They are working on a solution though.

and last week while relaxing at an open air bar...takin a break from shoping...a young collage girl was highly offended because someone lit a cigarette 30 ft from her....we have came a long way....john
