TOPIC: I am completely burned out on this project.

I am completely burned out on this project. 9 years 6 months ago #107072

I was hoping to use 55 Johnson on 59 Playmaster. Transom heights were different. Looking at different options, I did not like any of them. Then for the first time I put a seat in it and sat down. I was not comfortable. I lost all ambition. I can not remember of giving up on a project but this maybe the first. I put way too much time into this. Even if I got it finished, the pay out will not be worth the pain. I think I am done!! Perhaps Ebay? Maybe field of dreams at Sunnylands show? Maybe a gallon of ....

Or, a sale/trade on Craigslist. You may find something interesting. Life's too short to work on the wrong project.

Dare i offer $150 LOL. Stick it out Dave, it'll be worth it in the end. I don't think any of these old boats are comfortable anyway!

Cheers

Dave. Don't give up. I usually take a few weeks off, maybe even a month or so. The most comfortable boat I had was my Century Sabre. It seems the most uncomfortable one is what I am working on now. My present personal runner is hand built one off, designed by me and built for comfort. It's your project, you can make it as comfortable as you want.

What I built myself for comfort.
Lots of leg room and a seat wide enough for a 200+ LB guy/

What I'm working on now practically has my knees buried under the steering wheel.

The transom on this one was 5" to low for my 65hp 'rude so I just raised it. Don't give up.

I think many of us have been in this situation before Dave, all good advise above. If taking a break from it for a while doesn't help, put her on the market for what you feel comfortable with letting her go for. Start high, you can always come down, right?

I'm also right with Cal on the "make it comfortable for YOU" theory. Many of these classics aren't much fun to ride in as originally configured, so making it how you enjoy it most just makes sense to me. (Unless you're doing a faithful restoration just for shows, of course.)

Several good folks helped me make it through the rough spots on the last project Dave, anything we can do to help you just ask. ;)

Yeah, what Cal said. Some extra seat padding or maybe redesign the seats all together might be the answer. If your just plain tired of it, your better off getting rid of it.JMHO

dave, I got sick and tired of my 1958 rocket. so I decided to get rid of it. I tried to give it away and no takers. so 1 gallon of gas should take care of it. frog

lol greg, we'll have to see what we can work out this summer, I'm close to getting the HHR back together so a lot cheaper on gas than the old 2500 chev. Plus I'd like to also give you some money for her as well.

Hang in there Dave. I know the felling, there's some times when I look at that woody I'm doing and say what the heck did I get myself into! Then something happens around the house so I have to focus on it instead of the boat. At that point I feel bad that I haven't been working on the woody so I jump in full speed again. Like Cal and Mark said, make her comfortable so you'll enjoy her!

$150......if you would of said $175...I think I will just stop thinking about it. Boat show in a week. I bet some boating eye candy will help any decision.
I found a few reasons to get into wood boats

We are located in fintastic Tavares. Lots of inter connected fresh water lakes, thus Lake County. We will be taking My Amphicar via water to the boat show. They have a beer garden there. I did get in some trouble when I drove into Lake Loyd at Daytona.Hopefully no trouble next week.

Hey Dave, why don't you put a jet drive in it like this guy did? Way cool.

Bob, We'll be there for you too when you hit the wall.

Dave, Jets are good. That would keep your interest. You could start a whole new thread.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! No No No No No. Cut the boat in half again and start over?!! No No!!! F it! I have to see this to completion. Staying with original plan of staying original. The 1959 Mark 58 looks too cool. So it is not for sale unless big $$$. Like a kid I just wanted to use the darned thing!!!

Dave: Apparently, you're into boats and your Amphicar and you're having issues with a restoration? You need a change of pace...something right up your alley. Try to latch onto one of these:

Dave, if I read between the lines of your last post, I get the feeling you're not in favor of installing a jet drive, LOL!

Don't worry, the old Merc will look great.

That would get the environmentalists after me in no time!I think part of problem is too many projects that got started and not finished along with start up of new shop, then throw in the joys of aging. But I still have my Pulse.
