TOPIC: Larson

Larson 9 years 8 months ago #105234

I just purchased my first classic fiberglassic! Can anyone tell me about what I have? Any clue what year this is? I will need a bow light for the boat as well. Anybody have one? A photo of the proper bow light would also be helpful.

Thanks!

It looks a lot like the 1966 Larson All-American I restored last year but I'm no Larson expert. Here's the web address for the restoration photo log on my site. There's also a good shot of the original bow light.

Here you go:

It's a little rough but it obviously works and the price is negotiable with the "make offer" option.

Thanks to all. I will try and make it to the chat session. I'm pretty excited to own this boat and look forward to bringing her back to life. She seems to be in pretty good shape and will be a lot of fun.

By the way, this is the outline of the bow light base that was there. Does this make sense? It looks a lot different than the light shown on Ebay. Maybe it had the wrong light installed by the last owner??

Cool looking Boat. I love the windshield. Has lots of character. Is that a Johnson V4 on the back?

Re:Larson 9 years 8 months ago #105290

I really like the old Larson's. They have nice lines. As for the engine, it is an 85hp Johnson. That's all I know right now. The boat is in storage and I can't get to it to double check. Thanks to all for the comments and help.

Re:Larson 9 years 8 months ago #105309

Welcome aboard!

She's a Larson anywhere from the early 1960s to early 1970s. They didn't change styling much. I believe there are Larson brochures in the Glassic Library on this website.

Find the manufacturer's tag with complete and exact name and location. That may give a clue as to the year. Larson went thru some ownership and name changes in the period 1959 to 1964.

There are a series of articles on Larson Boat history at www.acbs-bslol.com

Awesome and thank you Andreas! Next time at the boat I will dig around and see what I can find. I have read that the ID tag is likely by the dash. Is this correct?

Re: Larson 9 years 8 months ago #105350

Thats a 1969 Larson 16' All American. The bow light pictured in the post was last used in 1968. It's a great boat, I'll try to get a scan from the 1969 brochure posted here very soon. Looks to be a Johnson 85 or 115 from about the same year, you have a great rig there!

Re: Larson 9 years 8 months ago #105351

Just looked on e-bay - the same bow light my 1969 Larson came with is there, here is the description "Vintage Boat Bow Navigation Red & Green Light Or Rat Rod". Current bid is $15 with something like 12 hours to go.

Re: Larson 9 years 8 months ago #105354

A couple more observations. I have never seen the "Larson" nameplates shown in the brochure. My 1969 came with the same teardrop Larson "lapline" decal you have. After being without decals for 20+ years, I replaced mine this year with some nice reproductions.
I also notice your boat has no ventilators on the deck. I was in second grade when our 1969 was delivered, I remember seeing the guy at the boat dealer use a hole saw to install ventilators in that brand new deck. It's nice your deck is still clean and uncluttered.

That nav light is the same as the one on my 1972 all American. I can't figure out how to post a link to it cause I'm on the road using my smart/dumb phone right now.you might be able to find it from my post, woodglass. ,I think it was something about my yard sale find. With that light your Larson May be closer to the 70's. I also have a very nice 1972 Larson brosure to share if any interest, but that will have to wait until I get home.

That last picture fits what is outlined on the boat. Thank you so much. Hopefully that's the only part I need :-)

I just found (and bought) this bow light on ebay. It looks right but it has wood grain. Does that make sense?

looks good. you can always paint over the wood or simply peel it off if you don't like it.
after seeing this post, I see that I bought the bow light that Nautilus posted from ebay, last week. I found a matching bow light mast for it also on ebay with no bids as well, now it's up over 150 bucks with a few days to go lol go figure, I'm trying to get a matching hardware set put to gether for my 2 59 lake n sea carribeans Pinky n Blu.

I am excited to get this light and see if it matches the outline on the deck. I really want to keep it as original as possible!

Re:Larson 9 years 6 months ago #106893

mine does have the wood grain. but I do agree build it the way you want it. I added this center console to mine. dont have any finished pics. but I wrapped it in a piece of matching vinyl that was originally wrapped around the gas tank. I wanted room to mount other things but did not want to cut or drill the dash, so it could be returned to original if it really mattered.
