TOPIC: How to Sell a Classic Mark 58 A?

Anyone have any advice on how to sell my really nice 1959 Mark 58A Long Shaft Merc? (Near perfect chrome) I put in the ad section but no response. All it needs is the timinng reset. Russell

Russel, buyers do not like "excuses" have the timing set properly and list it as ready to go. I cannot comment on your price for your location, it would be high for my neck of the woods. Hope this helps.

You listed it 3 days ago, between christmas and new years.

Not surprising to not have a response, esp for a $1K+ motor that needs work, even if only a reset timing....

To sell a motor even at 1/2 the price you are asking, one must be able to fire it up and show that it is running.

Even at that Before I would put the motor on a boat and run it I will change the water pump, and the timing belt. I do trust anyone on "it has a new pump" and if the belt is not new looking I know not if it will break as soon as I get out in the middle of the lake.

Sorry to say even here in the south where old motors are hard to come by; (we run motors 11 1/2 months out of the year and wear them out) the price is a bit high and as said before; wrong time of the year for most

Try Ebay "pick up" only however tell them you are willing to hold it for X # of months after they pay for it; so that they may be able to arrange someone to pick it up for them or if they are from the south they can wait till there is no way they will get caught in a snow/ice storm.
