Boats normally have the tags attached to the forward wall of the transom - usually a couple inches from the port or starboard edge of the splashwell area. This leaves the the tags unobstructed by the motor and associated equipment. The exact location is up to you the decide. I have seen identical boats from the same builder with tags on different sides of the splashwell - so I doubt there was an exact position for these to be placed.
