It's getting close to that time of the year. Will a calendar be made? When can we start submitting pics and sending money?

Re:Calendar Time approaching? 9 years 11 months ago #101711

Combining the pictures isn't hard, getting the two shots that look decent may be the hard part.

We could feature a before and after for each month along with the usual pictures of beautiful Glassics.

how to determine whose boat will be featured in the before and after will be difficult. can only feature 12. i don't want to make any enemies.

Could probably do two per page without making them too small, if there is interest?

FWIW I really like your train of thought on this year's calendar guys, some great ideas! With this layout I would stick with one page per boat however, if the pics get too small they will be hard to see. (People are constantly walking by my desk at work to check out the FG Calendar, see what's showing this month!) Just my two cents...

Don't worry about hurting anyone's feelings Ron, just set your time deadline and let the chips fall where they may. It will be even more of an "exclusive honor" to be on the calendar, and may help get your requests/submissions in on time?

I don't have anything to send in this year, but I sure want to be on the list to get one of these prized possessions (IMHO) !!!

THANK YOU for tackling this task again this year Ron (& Dave), really look forward to seeing how it turns out. ;)

I'm looking forward to the new calendar also. Mine hangs next to an Edsel calendar. Folks are always looking at them in my office.

Whatever you guys decide is fine with me. I'll be purchasing what I'm sure will be another outstanding offering.

Dave, I gotta know, what brand of boat is that? Back in the 70s-80s, a buddy of mine had that same boat in blue and white. Had a fat 50 on the back. I put in new stringers for him. My wife and I used to borrow it for boat camping trips to the barrier islands of SW Florida, near Sanibel. Never knew the brand or model, in fact never had it registered (the good old days), we just called it "The Fin". For every 100 pounds of camping gear, we packed about 100 lbs of fuel.

PS, might not have a new calendar photo to submit this year but I'll be anxious to order a copy, whatever the format.

Norm, that's a Custom Craft Sting Ray, made in Buffalo, NY. They did have a division in California, as well as Florida and West Virginia. They even sold some over seas! People around here just call it the "Bat Boat"...lol...:)

Re:Calendar Time approaching? 9 years 11 months ago #101742

What does everybody think about this way of choosing who's project get a page:???
Once you have your personal before and after photos, and either set them up like cc1000 did,...Or perhaps volunteers here could offer to privately set your pictures up for you??
Then post your personal project's picture page here - perhaps on a designated thread.
Then once a deadline has come, Ron announces it is time to vote. Then everybody sends their personal (12) choices privately to Ron. Ron counts up the votes and the Top Twelve remain secret until the calendar comes out.
This would take Ron off the potential 'hot seat' too.
I feel that it would not affect the outcome if you chose to include your own project in your Top Twelve, since others may agree or disagree and not include your project in their Top Twelve.

Re:Calendar Time approaching? 9 years 11 months ago #101748

i like the 1 boat per page idea, before and after, but squezzin 2 pics on a page horizontally, will distort the boat...i think. if anyone knows how to do it,,,please give instructions and display.

Re:Calendar Time approaching? 9 years 11 months ago #101749

Here is how two to a page would look, we can do that or maybe add some extra pages depending on the response from members.

I think voting would not be a good idea, it just doesn't go with what we are about here in my opinion.

Re:Calendar Time approaching? 9 years 11 months ago #101751

i just think that many to a page will make the pics just too small dave. lets get some more responses on the voting for which boats will be featured. those of you who like the voting idea, submit your choices to me with the owners name, year , make ,model of boat. any more ideas welcome.

Sorry Dave but those look a little squeezed vertically and wide horizontally, kind of distorted.

Re:Calendar Time approaching? 9 years 11 months ago #101757

Don't be sorry Bob, just trying to show what it would look like.

I prefer the single boat per page too, but that allows for 1/4 of the boats verses 1/2. Either way, I'll help out with the layout if Ron wants.

Re:Calendar Time approaching? 9 years 11 months ago #101764

I like the single picture per page any thing else just looks to crowded. But I also love before and after shots. So maybe you could but a couple of before shots in the calender section where the month runs out and you are left with empty squares. they would be small but at least there to show the amazing amount of hard work that twelve people put into there boats. I have seen similar things done on other calenders.

I really like the before/after approach. After all, that's what we do...restore antique boats. I also prefer a one boat per page format. "Stages of restoration" photos are great but there just isn't enough room to stuff them all into a square collage. In my opinion, the best layout would be to divide the square space in half horizontally..."before" on the top; "after" on the bottom. Since boats are horizontal in shape, photos could be cropped so that when the two were mated, they fit in the square format. Something like this maybe?

Unfortunately, not everyone takes good side shots of a boat before they begin the restoration. (I've taken damned few myself) However, there are other photos...photos of "pieces" of the boat...that would make good before and after submissions. Here's another example:

Re:Calendar Time approaching? 9 years 11 months ago #101833

but how many here know how to do that? (join 2 pics to a page) and what resolution is needed to do 2 horizontal pics to a page? any volunteers to do that and send me the finished pic?

Re:Calendar Time approaching? 9 years 11 months ago #101842

ok...dave albertson (cc1000- nicklecityclassics.com) has volunteered to crop the pics to fit the calendar page. we will only be doing 12 pictures, a before and after for each month (page), please submit before and after, horizontal pics only to dave. if they don't measure up in quality, dave will notify you. in 2 weeks dave will post the pic's he received, and the 12 with the most votes will be featured in the calendar. i will insert the script for the 12 selected and have them printed up. you can start emailing the pics to dave now. hopefully this all goes smootly. i will announce the cost in a few days. ron
