Hello gentlemen. It's a sad day when a Merc guy comes to the Omc crowd for help but I am out I my element!! I will be trying to assist my busy in repairing this motor in a couple weeks. I have a good understanding of two stroke motors but identifying an Omc is tricky for me. What year model and hp is it?

Nice Find!

Looks a lot like my 33hp 1965 "Ski twin" by Evinrude.

the Speeditwin Should be around the same age 1960's
28 HP I believe, electric start without a generator?, and should also be able to pull it over.

easy to work on, you'll have no trouble getting parts at your local dealer, and no trouble getting it running if compression and the lower unit are okay.

If you need to remove the fuel pump, you'll have to replace it or cut your own gasket from a sheet of material. The fuel pumps have changed to a newer style.

Have fun.

if the hood is correct to the motor , it is a 28 hp .can not tell you the year. just like mine, that I had for sale for awhile. a lot of lookers but no takers even at 65.00 bucks . so they are not worth much. greg

So it already runs from what I'm told. It idles really fast and does not want to shift . Could the throttle cable be set wrong making it run fast and because its running too fast it won't shift? What are your thoughts on price if it runs good with controls and steering?

Won't shift? Did you try disconnecting the control cable at the motor end and shifting with the lever? Does the lever move but won't go into gear? Along the shaft leg there should be a little cover held by screws, in there is the shift linkage where it is "spliced" to the lower unit with a set screw. See if that is somehow disconnected. Might be something jammed in the lower unit keeping it from moving. Lower seals and gears are easy to replace or work on, no special tools required (unlike a Merc) Either way it is an excellent utility motor or something to use as an aux on a sailboat. Very easy to work on and as said parts are plentiful. I had two of these with hand controls, used them on a 14' alum fishing boat.

I have not gotten my hands on it yet. I'm in seattle heading to Niagara Falls for a plethora of huge family events. A friend of mine there is going to buy a motor from me and I told him I would take a look at that one to offset the cost for him. The plan is to sell the motor hopefully running when I'm done with it. I just want to get a feel for it a little so I'm not walking in blind. I may flirt with other motors but I am a true convert to the dark side if mercs! Thanks for the suggestions I have a great starting point.
