A quick question if I may, any ideas as to why my '67 won't start after sitting for a while, say a couple of days, even when using the choke. I have to pour a little gas down the carb then it starts right up and runs great the rest of the day, no matter how many times I start and stop it. I've already rebuilt the carb and fuel pump a while back. Could the float needle valve be set wrong?

Motor uses the heat exchanger / hot air / bi-metallic spring / manual overide / electric overide choke set-up.
Have you tried using the manual overide ? Electric overide ? ---Have you tried adjusting the spring tension ?

Proff, sorry should have said I was using the electrical choke switch on the dash. kept the one form the Fat Fifty on the dash and it works. It'd closing when I push the switch but still not joy, have to prime it so to speak.

Have you found your problem? My boat may be suffering the same problem and would love to know your progress and opinions.

I have a 1962 75hp and I found instead of using the electric choke it is alot more effective to open the hood and throw the manual choke.

If you find that it is not working then maybe look at the float setting.

Well, I feel your OMC pain. I have a 5 1/2 Johnny. CD 18, 60's. On a 12 foot alum boat, a ass kicker at speed. BUT?

I have replaced the fuel pump, carb off and cleaned, float perfect. It will not start yanking the rope after sitting a day. Gotta "squirt" some gas in first. Then fine rest the day. WHY? Hell, I dunno..manual choke works fine. (damn boats with motors!..but its all good when running!

On the 5.5 HP you may need to open throttle some more.----The start position on the collar is a very rough guide.--Ignore that for the most part.----Also make sure that when you pull the choke knob that plate closes completely and is tight.
