FINALLY! after more problems than I want to discuss I was able to run the '67 Johnson Golden Meteor on a hard cruise without problems. The retro build changing from CDI to conventional ignition went without a hitch, fuel delivery was a headache. I made the BIG mistake of using the old 18 gallon steel fuel tank that I thought I could boil the rust out of. I posted last fall about that. Over the winter rust set in again without my knowledge. First time out this spring the tiny inline filter clogged up, got towed back to the dock. I put on a large fuel/water filter, that clogged in about 2 minutes, got pulled to the dock again. Bought another inline filter thinking I could run the rust out. Yup...another two job back to the dock :(
I pulled the tank for an inspection and it is way beyond repair or cleaning so in the dumper it went. I switched to two 6 gallon plastic tanks and voilà.
That motor runs, idles and jumps out of a hole like nobody's business. Runs so quiet I have to double check to make sure it's even running.
Just to let ya know.
