TOPIC: Carbs spitting gas on Johnson 70s?

I am about to get my twin Johnson 70s ready for the season.

Last year the carbs were spitting gas at idle. I'm assuming the reeds need work. Would this be correct?

If so, what would a person usually need to do? Are replacement reeds available, or can I only get a reed plate assembly?

Start with getting a service manual. Ebay has used and new ones, with the factory ones being the most comprehensive. Reeds on OMC motors are very durable, but one or more could possibly be stuck open or damaged.

Reeds are usually available seperately.----After you install new ones you may find that carburetors will still spit out a wee bit of fuel.

Diesel, I do a lot of business with Marine engine.com they should have the parts you need, manuels too!

I have owners and service manuals. Have the engines off the boat, so going to go ahead and pull the reed plates to check things out.

Anyone ever have to resurface a reed plate?

I pulled the reed plates on both engines. If I hold them up to sunlight, I can see a tiny bit of light through a gap in a couple reeds. Aside from that, the reeds and plates look really good.

What do you think? Change the slightly lifted reeds, or run them?
